Does June 4th matter?

July 2, 2009

Yesterday I participated in my first local demonstration, a peaceful march from Causeway Bay to Central to commemorate the 20th anniversary of June 4th, 1989, the day of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.

It was Hong Kong as I’ve never seen before: passionate, nationalistic, and united. It made me so proud

There were a lot of political celebrities in the crowd, like Emily Lau and Tanya Chan. At one point I found myself walking right in front of Democratic Party founder Martin Lee!
